The V-TAC VT-836 is a compact outdoor wall light shaped like a flattened sphere 112 mm across, releasing its light through two opposing slots – one upward, one downward. Rather than lighting a whole space, it draws two symmetrical cones of brightness onto the wall, which makes it a good fit wherever rhythm and direction matter more than flood coverage: beside a front door, along a facade, on a terrace or balcony, above a garage door. What it was built for The manufacturer files the VT-836 among its facade lamps, and that is exactly how it behaves. The housing is powder-coated aluminium in black, and IP65 means fully dust-tight and resistant to water jets from any direction – rain, driving wind and hosing the facade down are all within its rating. The declared operating range is −20 °C to +45 °C, covering a full winter and the height of summer, though V-TAC notes the fitting is not intended for extreme conditions. The light it gives The built-in 6 W LED module produces 660 lm, an efficacy of 110 lm/W – a good figure for a fitting this size. At 4000 K the light is neutral white: none of the warm yellow cast of 3000 K, none of the bluish edge of higher temperatures. Against black aluminium and pale render it reads clean and technical. Colour rendering is above 80 with an R9 red component of 10, the usual level for functional exterior lighting. The 110° beam angle spreads the flux wide, so the patches on the wall have soft edges instead of a hard outline. Peak luminous intensity is 246.33 cd. Things worth knowing before you buy The fitting runs directly off 220–240 V mains and is not dimmable – wiring it to a phase-cut dimmer will not work. Power factor is above 0.5 and standby draw is zero. V-TAC declares energy class F and EPREL number 1027984. The product information sheet describes the electrical interface as L/N/G – live, neutral and protective earth – so the installation needs a green-and-yellow conductor run to it. Longevity Rated life is 30,000 hours, which at three hours a day works out to roughly 27 years. The module is rated for 15,000 switching cycles, lumen maintenance is 0.96 and the survival factor 1.00. Colour consistency stays within 6 MacAdam ellipses, so several units set side by side along one facade will hold the same tint. Start-up takes 0.001 s – full output the instant the switch closes, with no warm-up. Variant and family This is the black 4000 K version. V-TAC offers the same housing in black at 3000 K, while the white and grey finishes are currently supplied as a 4 W version. The choice therefore comes down to body colour and colour temperature – geometry, ingress rating and mounting are identical throughout.
