The connecting rod is guided on the crankshaft bearing surfaces by plain bearings (connecting rod bearings). A defective connecting rod bearing is primarily noticeable through noise (knocking, clattering), which increases with rising engine speed. If a damaged connecting rod bearing is not replaced promptly, significant consequential damage (bearing seizure) can occur, such as the destruction of the bearing surfaces on the crankshaft.
