SOLO BLACK is a single-light pendant from the Solo series: a black metal cage of vertical bars 20 cm across, with a spherical smoked-glass shade inside it. The canopy and the cable are black as well. How big it is and where to hang it The cage measures 20 × 20 cm and the whole fitting, cable included, is 120 cm tall. At 20 cm across this is a light for one particular spot rather than for a whole room: over a narrow worktop, over a side table, or several in a row above a longer table. Over a table the shade is usually hung so its lower edge sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. Gross weight is 0.8 kg, so the fitting loads the ceiling no more than any ordinary single-bulb pendant. Bulb and light The fitting takes one E27 lamp of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so brightness and colour temperature are yours to choose — and that choice also decides whether the light can be dimmed. Light leaves by two routes: through the smoked glass of the shade, which damps and tints it, and through the gaps between the cage bars, which throw a pattern of shadows onto the ceiling and walls. The see-through shade also leaves the bulb itself visible, so it is worth picking one that looks good lit. Build and where it fits The frame is metal finished in black and the shade is glass — the combination of an open cage with see-through glass is what the manufacturer calls modern. The IP20 rating limits it to dry indoor rooms.
