The Steinel NightMatic 2000 550318 is a black photoelectric switch that controls connected outdoor lighting according to ambient brightness. Its rectangular, UV-resistant plastic enclosure has visible screws and vertical grooves across the lower section. This is a separate lighting controller, not a luminaire with its own light source.Dusk-to-dawn switching rather than a fixed scheduleThe built-in photosensor uses mixed-light measurement. It turns the connected lights on as darkness falls and off again at dawn. An internal potentiometer sets the response threshold between 2 and 30 lx, so you choose an ambient light level rather than one fixed switching time each evening.Operation depends on light, not on someone walking past. Main-light adjustment and constant-lighting control are not provided for this version. Automatic switching should therefore not be confused with variable brightness control of the connected lamps.A wall position away from the controlled lightThe enclosure is 99 mm high, 74 mm wide and 37 mm deep. It is designed for wall mounting with surface wiring and a cable connection. The black RAL 9005 finish and plain, technical outline make it an installation component rather than decorative outdoor lighting.Steinel specifies outdoor use at entrances, façades, terraces, balconies and driveways. The enclosure is rated IP54. Positioning matters: light from the connected luminaire must not shine directly onto the sensor. The installation instructions identify this feedback as a possible cause of repeated switching on and off.Check the load before connectingThe 1000 W rating applies to resistive loads; it is not a universal connection limit for every LED installation. Check the type and number of connected sources against the manufacturer's instructions. The supply requirement is 230–240 V / 50 Hz.The package contains one controller and mounting accessories, but no corner wall mount. Mains connection must be carried out professionally, with the supply isolated and the absence of voltage verified before work begins.Show more
