If the solenoid switch malfunctions or sticks, the starter motor will spin freely during starting and not engage the engine, or the starter pinion will continue to spin after starting. This can lead to a defective starter motor. It is therefore recommended to replace the solenoid switch at the first sign of trouble. To use this switch on early 944 models (pre-'85), the wiring harness connector on the vehicle must be modified.
