The five-ring version of the s.luce Ring is five metal rings measuring 120, 100, 80, 60 and 40 cm across, hung one below the other on the same axis from thin cables and a single round canopy. The finish is brushed gold, and the ring section itself is 1.3 cm wide and 3.3 cm deep. How much room the ring stack takes The widest ring measures 120 cm and sets the footprint of the whole fitting — compare that figure with the length of your table or the width of the space the light is to hang over. Each further ring narrows by 20 cm, down to 40 cm at the bottom. The section is slim, so at 3.13 kg the fitting loads the ceiling at a single point, under the canopy. The body is metal and plastic, and the fitting is intended for indoor use only. How high it can hang The manufacturer quotes a 500 cm suspension and an overall height of up to 5 m, and the height is adjustable. That much cable lets the fitting run through a space open to the floor above, or down a stairwell, where an ordinary pendant does not reach. s.luce states that the flexible cable suspension also allows mounting under a sloped ceiling, each ring then being levelled separately. The intended rooms are the dining room, living room, bedroom, foyer, gallery and stairwell. The light it gives and what dimming needs The LEDs are built into the rings and come with the fitting, so no bulbs are bought separately — and none can be replaced either. The five rings draw 174 W in total at 230 V, and the manufacturer quotes 25,000 hours of life and 15,000 switching cycles. The light is 3000 K, a warm white with a slightly yellow cast, with colour rendering above Ra 95 — under that light the colours of food and fabric read almost as they do in daylight, which counts over a table. The fitting dims, but needs a leading- or trailing-edge dimmer; an ordinary switch will not do it. What the installation requires The fitting is protection class I, so the connection needs an earth conductor — on an installation without earthing, check this before buying.
