Nordkapp 1620AL is an outdoor wall light with a square die-cast aluminium body, powder-coated and closed by a flat milky polycarbonate diffuser. Three horizontal bands run across the middle of the diffuser at the height of the light source — the detail by which Norlys separates Nordkapp from the similar Nordland. The body is held by four corner screws. How it fixes and wires The manufacturer specifies two ø5 mm holes at a spacing of 164 x 242 mm — that pattern has to be transferred to the wall before drilling. The cable enters through an EPDM gland sized for a round sheath of 7–10.5 mm diameter. The terminals take conductors up to 3 x 2.5 mm². The fitting can also be looped, carrying the supply on to the next one, and the terminals then take up to 3 x 1.5 mm². That settles whether a run of these along a façade can sit on one circuit without a junction box at every point. How much light it gives The built-in LED module draws 16 W and gives 471 lm at 3000 K, warm white. That is less than an old 60 W bulb: the fitting marks an entrance, a set of steps or a stretch of wall rather than lighting a whole drive. The milky diffuser spreads the light across its full face, so it glows evenly instead of throwing a hard beam. The manufacturer lists this version as dimmable — the dimmer belongs to the installation and is chosen separately. Rated life is 50,000 hours and the energy efficiency class is F. Build and durability Powder-coated die-cast aluminium, a UV-stabilised polycarbonate diffuser, a silicone gasket and an EPDM gland are a set meant to work outdoors all year — UV-stabilised polycarbonate does not yellow in sunlight as quickly as plain polycarbonate. Norlys gives a five-year guarantee on the fitting and a twenty-five-year anti-corrosion guarantee. The second figure matters more on a seafront wall or beside a road salted in winter, where it is the coating rather than the electronics that decides how long the fitting still looks right.Show more
