BISCUIT taupe is a desk lamp built from two aluminium shapes: a cylindrical base and a round shade with a wavy edge, set on top of it at an angle. The body is finished in taupe, a matt grey-beige, and the cable is black. The lamp has its own switch, so you turn it on at the desk rather than at a wall switch. How much light the lamp gives The light comes from an LED strip recessed inside the housing. There is no socket and no bulb to buy, so the lamp works straight out of the box, but the source cannot be replaced once it is worn out. It draws 6 W and delivers 755 lm, roughly what an old 60 W incandescent bulb gave: enough for work over a desktop, not for lighting a whole room. At 3000 K the light is warm white, with a slightly yellow cast. Colour rendering reaches Ra 93, where a typical LED fitting stops at Ra 80, so paper, fabric and paint colours look almost the way they do in daylight. The shade covers the strip from above and sends the beam to one side, which keeps the diode out of your line of sight. How much room it takes on a desk The lamp measures 13 by 12 cm at the base, stands 15 cm tall and weighs 0.6 kg. Compare that footprint with the free space at the edge of your desk or on a bedside cabinet: it takes up about as much room as a medium mug. The low weight means you can move it with one hand. Where to put it Thoro intends BISCUIT for a desk during evening work, for a bedside table as a night light, and for a chest of drawers or a living room shelf.
