Lex 436 is a pendant light with two wire shades: open, many-sided cages of black metal rod hung on black cords from a rectangular ceiling bar. The cages are not filled in — the bulb stays visible inside and is part of how the fitting looks. How big it is and how it hangs The ceiling bar is 50 cm long, and that is what sets how much space the fitting takes up under the ceiling. Each cage is 19 cm across and both hang in one line — compare that against the width of the worktop or island the light is meant to go over. The manufacturer states a height of 120 cm, meaning the whole drop including cords and bar. Under a standard ceiling that leaves roughly a metre and a half clear below the shades, so the fitting stays out of the way as long as it hangs over furniture rather than over a walkway. Which bulbs to buy There are two E27 lampholders, and the manufacturer allows up to 60 W in each. Bulbs are not included, so colour and brightness are yours to choose: 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light close to a traditional incandescent, while 4000 K is cooler and more workmanlike. The cage is open and does not screen the bulb, so the whole shape of the glass is on show and the light passes between the rods, drawing a geometric shadow on the ceiling and walls. For the same reason it is worth fitting a bulb you want to look at — a decorative one with a visible filament, or an opal one if a bare point of light in your eyeline bothers you. Build and where it fits The whole structure — bar, cages and lampholders — is metal finished in black, with no glass and no fabric. The fitting is intended for dry interiors and runs on 230 V mains. The manufacturer directs the Lex range at living rooms, hallways, kitchens and catering premises. The plain geometric cage without ornament is a modern form that sits with raw materials and plain walls rather than with a classical interior.
