The DOUBLE cover is a flat PMMA diffuser that closes the channel of a LUMINES aluminium profile. This version is one metre long and **black** — the most unusual variant in the whole family. Why a black cover on a light fitting Contrary to first impressions, a black diffuser does not kill the light — it passes it, but only once the fitting is on. Switched off, a profile with a black cover is uniformly dark and merges into a dark ceiling, a dark wall or black joinery instead of drawing a bright line across it. Switched on, the light comes through the diffuser and the line itself looks more sharply drawn, because the contrast between the lit slot and its surroundings is greater than with a milky cover. It is the choice for dark interiors, home cinemas, display cases and anywhere the fitting should be invisible when not working. PMMA and transmittance Polycarbonate and PMMA are the two materials used for profile covers; PMMA (acrylic) is chosen for its high transmittance and good light dispersion. The manufacturer gives the following transmittance figures for this family: **clear PMMA 93%**, **frosted PMMA 79%**. The black variant sits at the far end of that scale — it is the most heavily tinted and absorbs the most flux, which has to be allowed for when sizing the LED strip: to reach the same brightness as under a milky cover, a more powerful strip is needed. Five versions of the same shape The DOUBLE shape is available in five finishes: clear (a fully transparent cover, individual diodes visible), frosted (translucent, lightly diffusing), milky (white, the inside of the profile hidden, diffuses the light points very well), milky frosted, and black. Choosing between them is in practice a choice between diode visibility and loss of flux — the stronger the diffusion, the smoother the line of light and the fewer lumens leave the fitting. Profile compatibility This cover fits twenty-three LUMINES profile systems: SILEDA, inSILEDA, DILEDA, inDILEDA, UNICO, DOPIO, DULIO, TALIA, inTALIA, ZATI, SUBLI, LOGI, CONVA, TOPO, PERO, VEDA, DUAL, GEMI, PLATO, HIRO, DUO, FIXO and MOTTA. It clips into the top of the profile and can be cut to length. Besides the one-metre section, 2.02 m and 3 m lengths are available — on longer runs it is worth ordering the cover in sections matching the profile, to keep the number of visible joints down.
