Two different ranges — and that is the whole point A presence detector is not the same thing as a motion detector, and the PD-24 ECO does both, at two different radii. Motion — someone walking across the room — is picked up in a circle 24 m across, roughly 452 m². Presence — the small movements of someone sitting still at a desk: a hand on the keyboard, a turn of the head — is only detected within a circle of 7.5 m. That distinction governs placement: one detector will cover movement across a whole large room, but for the light not to go out on the person working in the corner, their desk has to fall inside the smaller circle. Mounting height: 2–10 m, optimum 2.8 m The range is wide because the detector copes in warehouses too — maximum mounting height is 10 m. But the manufacturer states 2.8 m as optimum, and that is the height at which the quoted ranges hold; higher up the detection circle grows while sensitivity to small movement falls. Ceiling mounted, in the flush (UP) version — the box disappears into the ceiling, leaving a flat disc 109 mm across and 74 mm deep. A magnet instead of screws The unit is held by a magnetic mount: the mounting ring is screwed up once, and the detector itself goes on and comes off in a single movement. With a round housing there is no orientation to get right. The practical gain is in servicing — access to the adjustment potentiometers without dismantling anything. Cover caps that narrow the field of view Plug-in cover caps in the housing colour are supplied, masking part of the optics. This solves the commonest problem when mounting in a corridor: without them the detector "sees" through an open door into the next room, or reacts to movement outside a window and switches on for nothing. Rather than move the detector, you narrow its field. Push-button input and parallel connection Two features that separate the COM1 version from a plain detector. First, a push-button input: an ordinary momentary switch wired to the detector lets the light be turned on, or forced off, by hand without waiting for the automatics — the occupant keeps control of the room. Second, parallel connection of up to 10 detectors: in a long corridor or a large hall several are placed, and detection by any one of them switches the whole group. Switching capacity The switching output handles 2000 W of resistive load, but only 500 W of LED lamps above 8 W (capacitive load 176 µF, up to 50 LED or fluorescent fittings). The gap between 2000 and 500 W is not an error: LED drivers draw a brief inrush current far above their rated figure when switched on, so the permissible load is several times lower than for incandescent lamps. Settings Light threshold adjustable from 2 to 1000 lux, detection angle 360°, technology: passive infrared with mixed-light metering. Settings go in via potentiometers on the housing or by remote control (the Smart Remote is not included). Operating range −20 °C to +50 °C, ingress rating IP20 — dry interiors.
