The *Salmonella* tube is designed for screening nutraceuticals for the presence of *Salmonella*. For most applications, the test duration for this tube is 20 hours. Following a *Salmonella*-selective enrichment protocol, the target organisms proliferate within the broth contained in the tube. The carbon dioxide (CO2) generated during this process diffuses through a membrane layer into a soft agar plug, which contains a color indicator dye. The instrument monitors and records the resulting color change of the dye. The membrane layer within the tube acts as a barrier, preventing product-related interference with the instrument's optical reading window.
