SHANTI is a floor lamp on a tripod: three slim black legs spread across 48 cm, carrying a cylindrical shade in light grey fabric. The whole thing stands 144 cm tall – just enough for the shade to sit roughly at the eye level of someone in an armchair. Cotton, not plastic The shade is sewn from natural cotton, not a PVC film imitating fabric, and it shows in the light: natural fibre diffuses the flux softly and lets some through sideways, so the lamp does not only shine downwards but also lifts the wall behind it. The pale grey tone is neutral – it tints the light neither warm nor cool. Inside, the shade is finished with a non-flammable material, which with an exposed E27 lamp is a safety measure rather than a cosmetic one. A tripod – why three legs Three points of support always stand steady, even on an uneven floor – a fourth leg would need levelling. At 48 cm across and 1.6 kg the lamp is light, so bear in mind it is not a weighted design: in a busy walkway it is better placed against a wall than in the middle of the room. Operation There is a switch on the cord – the lamp is turned on by hand from the chair or by foot, with no reaching for the socket and no separate wall switch. The E27 lampholder takes a bulb of up to 40 W; no bulb is supplied. Supply 230 V / 50 Hz. Where to put it At 144 cm SHANTI gives light from above but below ceiling level – in a living room that makes a defined zone around the chair rather than lifting the whole space. In a bedroom it works as a reading lamp beside the bed, in an office as a corner supplement to the general lighting. Tripod and fabric are Scandinavian vocabulary, so the lamp does not clash with timber or with plain furniture.
