VT-817 is a square recessed spotlight fitting from V-TAC for a GU10 lamp – a white steel frame measuring 82 × 82 mm with a tilting inner ring. The box contains two pieces. It is a fitting, not a lamp The product consists of the frame, the tilting ring and a GU10 lampholder on a lead. The bulb is not included – you buy it separately and choose it for the job: wattage, colour temperature and beam angle. That is the main advantage of this construction over an integrated-LED downlight: years from now you replace the lamp rather than the fitting, and you can change the colour of the light without touching the ceiling. The tilting ring The inner ring tilts within the frame, so once installed the fitting can be aimed at a wall, a picture or a worktop – not only straight down. On a row of downlights above shelving, or along a gallery wall, that is the difference between even lighting and a strip of light on the floor. The 35 W limit The manufacturer gives a maximum lamp power of 35 W. That is a thermal limit for the steel frame, not a brightness recommendation: a current GU10 LED of 5–7 W gives 400–600 lm, as much as a 50 W halogen used to. The 35 W cap therefore rules out only older, higher-power halogens. The supply is mains, 220–240 V, 50 Hz – no transformer needed, unlike a 12 V version. Installation The fitting is recessed into a suspended ceiling or plasterboard; the frame stays proud while the body sits 27 mm into the void. V-TAC does not publish a cut-out dimension – when cutting, work from the template in the packaging and leave room above the board for the holder and its lead. The IP20 rating places it in dry interiors; the operating range is −20 to +45 °C.
