LEONARDO Las Plumas
LEONARDO is a decorative sculpture of a reclining lion – not a shelf figurine but an object 80 cm wide and 38 cm tall that claims a place of its own in a room. The casting reproduces the texture of the mane and the tension of the muscles; the whole piece is finished in gold, so it works with light: matt and warm in daylight, sharply contrasted in the evening under a spotlight. Material and scale The sculpture is cast in resin – a material that captures fine cast detail while keeping the object lighter and less brittle than ceramic or plaster at this size. 80 cm across is a scale at which the lion is not an accessory: it goes on the floor by a fireplace, on a wide windowsill, on a hallway chest, or on a low coffee table in a living room. Where it looks best Gold needs a background. Against a pale, smooth wall the sculpture merges into its surroundings; against dark plaster, wood, or in a dark corner of a room it steps forward. It is worth lighting directionally, even with a track spot: side light brings out the structure of the mane, frontal light flattens it.
