Rust as a finish, not a fault RUSTY 70 is built from FeCSi steel — an alloy on which weathering grows a dense rust layer. That layer does not keep eating inwards: it seals off oxygen and protects the steel beneath from further corrosion. The colour of the post therefore shifts over the first months before settling, and every unit ages a little differently depending on sun and damp in its particular spot. Anyone after a uniform, repeatable paint finish should choose another series — here the uneven tone is the point. Light at your feet, not in your eyes The fitting stands 70 cm tall and 19 cm across, and the light leaves through horizontal slots in the upper part of the column. The manufacturer classes the distribution as asymmetric and the emission as direct-indirect: part of the output drops straight onto the surface, part bounces inside the body. In practice that means a lit path with no bright point in your line of sight — which is why posts like this go along approaches and driveways rather than being asked to light a whole garden. Lamp and supply A single E27 socket inside the column takes a lamp of up to 11 W; the lamp is not supplied. SLV recommends its own source 1005289 — an LED T38 E27, 8 W, 3000 K, CRI 90, 240° beam. The post wires straight into 220–240 V mains at 50/60 Hz; protection class II means no earth conductor is required. Accessories bought separately A 50 cm galvanised steel ground spike (index 229022) and a three-pole IP68 junction box (228730), which makes a safe electrical connection inside the column, are both offered for RUSTY. Both are optional and neither is included — worth adding to the order, because without the spike the post has to be set into a foundation. Resistance and weight IP55 protects against dust and water jets, which matches ordinary exposure to rain and watering. Impact resistance is IK02 — a low figure, so the post is better placed out of the mowing line and away from where balls get kicked. Net weight is 13.708 kg and gross 14.668 kg; that mass helps stability but calls for a solid footing.
