A butyl (C4) linker in the phenyl bonded phase enables superior alignment of the phenyl ring to aromatic molecules, increasing π-π interactions and improving retention of molecules. The C4 linker also imparts moderate hydrophobicity to the stationary phase. This makes it ideal for the separation of analyte mixtures with different polar and aromatic properties.
