An LED Labs strip from the STANDARD line, supplied on a 50 m reel. The eight-millimetre circuit board carries 120 SMD 2835 diodes per metre, emitting neutral white at 4000 K. The strip runs on 12 V DC and draws 9.6 W per metre. Which driver it needs The strip does not work plugged straight into a socket — it needs a 12 V DC driver, which is not included. Its rating follows the manufacturer's own rule: draw per metre times the length of the run, plus about 10% headroom. For the full fifty-metre reel that comes to 480 W, over 500 W with the headroom — in practice always several drivers and several feed points rather than one. For a shorter run the arithmetic is the same: 5 m is 48 W, 10 m is 96 W. The driver's output must be exactly 12 V — a 24 V unit will destroy the strip. What sort of light it gives 4000 K is neutral white: light with neither a yellow nor a blue cast, and the least tiring over a long stay in a room. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough for lighting a worktop or the inside of a wardrobe, but not for places where a colour has to be judged accurately. 120 diodes per metre is twice the spacing density of the 60 LED/m version in the same line — which matters where the strip is visible, because the closer the points sit, the less individual diodes stand out in the reflection on a wall or a worktop. Where it may be installed An IP20 rating means no protection against water or dust — the manufacturer rules out installation in rooms with raised humidity, so the shower zone, a terrace and a façade are all out. That leaves dry interiors: under kitchen cabinets, under a worktop, in a wardrobe, in trim recesses. The strip is 8 mm wide — the figure to check against the channel of an aluminium profile if it is to sit in one. Rated life is 15,000 hours, about 13 years at three hours of use a day.
