The reason is a manufacturing defect. The original gear was made of urethane but factory-lubricated with a petroleum-based lubricant. Over the years, this lubricant has made the material porous. Therefore, you should thoroughly clean the components of the lubricant before replacing the gear. The material of this gear is made with graphite additives and requires no lubricant! The adjacent disc gear also frequently fails because it, too, has come into contact with the wrong lubricant. To avoid duplicate installation work, we recommend replacing both gears together with the corresponding disc gear. These can be found in our shop. Note: Some models from 1992-1993 may also have a V26 (26 teeth) installed. We therefore recommend determining the number of teeth before purchasing.
