Porsche refers to this panel as the fender connection panel. The panel itself is a weld-in panel for body repairs. Please note that the bodies of the early 911s were still largely handcrafted. Accordingly, no two vehicles are alike, and minor sheet metal adjustments for perfect panel gaps are possible. The short-wheelbase 911s have a slightly different right-side fender panel.
