Elstead ZIGGY ZIGGY-F-M-LS Flush Ceiling Light 2xE27 Steel and Glass, Lacquered Silver, Ø 40.6 cm
Two layers: a pierced cage and a glass drum ZIGGY does not have one shade but two, set inside each other. The outer layer is a laser-cut steel cage in a pattern of diamonds and squares — a plainly Art Deco motif, repeated and geometric. Beneath it sits a second, solid drum of opal glass, closed at the bottom by a flat glass disc with a small finial at its centre. The arrangement produces two kinds of light at once: soft light diffused downwards through the glass, and the shadow pattern the cage throws onto the ceiling around the fitting. The pattern on the ceiling is the real effect Worth planning for: against a pale, smooth ceiling the geometric shadow of the cage is crisp and becomes decoration in itself; against a dark or heavily textured ceiling it all but disappears. It is also the reason to fit lamps of similar colour and brightness — two different bulbs produce a lopsided, off-centre pattern. Flush dimensions The fitting is 40.6 cm across and only 22.9 cm deep, mounting directly to the ceiling with no drop. That is the answer for rooms of ordinary height where a pendant is in the way — a hallway, a bedroom, a dining area in a flat with a 2.5 m ceiling. At 6 kg it is heavy for a flush fitting (steel plus two layers of glass), so fix it into the structural ceiling rather than plasterboard alone. Two E27 sockets — you choose the lamps Inside are two E27 sockets, each taking a lamp up to 60 W; no lamps are included and there is no integrated LED module. The fitting is dimmable-compatible, but — and this is the condition — only with dimmable lamps; it holds no control gear of its own. With opal glass there is no need for decorative bulbs: an ordinary frosted E27 LED at 2700–3000 K and 700–900 lm each gives even light. Construction and conditions of use The structure is silver-lacquered steel (the ceiling pan included) and glass.
