This ensures a short warm-up phase while the engine is fully cooled under load. If the thermostat is defective or stuck, the engine will only run on one of the two cooling circuits. Unnecessarily long warm-up phases or engine overheating are the result. It is therefore important to replace a stuck thermostat early so that the coolant temperature control can function properly again.
