GES142 is an outdoor wall light from the Italian brand Gea Luce – a half-round body 25 cm wide with an aluminium structure in brown and a white polished methacrylate diffuser. Biemissione – light goes up and down This is the property no spec list shows and that decides the effect on a facade. The manufacturer calls the fitting biemissione: light leaves both above and below the diffuser. On a wall that produces the characteristic double lit triangle – one rising, one falling onto the threshold or terrace – instead of a single flat patch. The practical effect: the downward beam lights the way beneath the fitting, the upward one picks out the wall texture and visually raises the elevation. IP54 – what it means and what it does not The first digit 5 means dust protection sufficient not to interfere with operation (not full dust-tightness); the second, 4, resistance to splashing water from any direction. In practice the fitting suits a wall under an eave, beside a front door, on a terrace or in an arcade, where driving rain reaches it but a hose jet does not. That is enough for most house facades. An E27 socket – 18 W maximum, bulb separate 18 W is the upper limit for the lamp that may be fitted, not the luminaire's power. No bulb is supplied. The manufacturer's catalogue lists recommended 10 W E27 diodes: 855 lm at 3000 K, 880 lm at 4000 K or 910 lm at 6500 K, all with CRI above 80 and a 240° beam. For a house facade 3000 K is the natural pick – warm white looks right on render and timber and attracts fewer insects than cold light. Aluminium and methacrylate – materials chosen for outdoors The structure is aluminium, a metal that does not rust in the first place – the basic requirement for anything hanging on a wall through every season. The diffuser is polished methacrylate (PMMA): impact- and frost-resistant, and unlike glass it will not shatter from hail or a stone thrown up by a mower, while passing more light than opal glass. Dimensions and installation The fitting measures 25 cm wide, 12 cm high and 13.2 cm deep – horizontal proportions suited to mounting beside a door or in a row along a wall. Weight about 0.7 kg. Supply 220–240 V, protection class I – an earth conductor is required, so leave the installation to an electrician.
