This unique stationary phase will adsorb and desorb solvents commonly used in mobile phases very differently from ordinary silica resulting in fantastic benefits to the chromatographer. Silica-Hydride columns have virtually no surface silanols remaining (less than 2%). This hydrophobic surface doesn’t have a strong association with water or other solvents; therefore, it doesn’t form a “hydration shell” and the subsequent issues that occur with all other silica-based columns. The Silica-C™ surface is so unique these columns are used in normal phase (NP) HPLC without having to concern yourself with the solvent moisture content.
