Alcudia is a cascade pendant: from a round gold canopy a set of thin cables drops, each carrying a small bud-shaped glass shade capped in gold. The shades hang at different heights, so the piece reads as a three-dimensional cloud of points rather than a flat ring. Designed for tall interiors The canopy is 55 cm across and the whole fitting reaches as far as 200 cm down. This is not a lamp for a table in a standard-height flat — a cascade needs vertical space to work. The natural places are a stairwell, a mezzanine, a double-height living room, an entrance hall. With a two-metre drop it is worth checking how much cable can be shortened at installation and whether the lowest shade will end up in anyone's way. Vertically ribbed glass Each shade is clear glass with vertical fluting, closed with a gold cap on top. Fluting like that breaks the light into many streaks instead of passing it smoothly — lit, the cascade sparkles as a collection of small lights rather than glowing as one even patch. The gold of the canopy and the caps ties the whole together and places the lamp firmly in the decorative register. TRIAC dimming The maker states plainly that the fitting can be dimmed with a TRIAC dimmer — a classic leading-edge dimmer, the kind fitted in the wall box in place of an ordinary switch. On a lamp like this that is not an extra: 3780 lm in a stairwell in the evening is too much, and being able to drop to a fraction of it turns the cascade into mood lighting. Thirteen and a half kilograms hung from a single ceiling point rules out the hook left by the previous lamp — it needs anchoring into a structural element, chosen by an electrician to suit the ceiling. In plasterboard you must hit a supporting profile or add reinforcement. The weight is also an argument for two people hanging it: a cascade of cables does not tolerate being turned and twisted as it is lifted. Integrated LED — what that means in practice There are no bulbs to change here: the LED system is built into the fitting and works as one. The advantage is no visible lampholders and the ability to close the glass into such a small form; the price is a manufacturer service call when the module wears out. 3000 K is warm white, which against the gold finish gives the whole composition a distinctly honeyed tone.
