S179 is a surface-mounted spotlight from the Greek brand Zambelis Lights – an aluminium cylinder 8.5 cm across and 13 cm long in a sandy white finish, with a movable head and a recessed 4.5 cm reflector. Surface-mounted – the ceiling stays intact This is the distinction the word "spot" hides: this fitting is not recessed. The manufacturer states plainly that it needs no cutting hole and no depth above the ceiling – the cylinder screws onto a finished surface. That makes it usable on a concrete slab, in a flat with no suspended ceiling, or wherever a waterproofing or insulation layer rules out cutting holes. A movable head – 360° rotation and 30° tilt The body rotates a full 360° and tilts 30° from vertical. The fitting is therefore not committed to one spot forever: rearrange the furniture or hang a picture, and you simply re-aim the beam without undoing anything. The 38° angle is a mid-width beam – from 2.5 m it lights a pool about 1.7 m across, the size of a worktop, a basin or a section of wall. IP44 and operation from -30 °C The IP44 rating means resistance to splashing water from any direction – hence its real use above a basin or elsewhere in a bathroom, where an ordinary IP20 spot is not allowed. The stated operating range runs from -30 to 45 °C, so the fitting keeps its figures in an unheated room or an uninsulated attic. CRI 90 and visual comfort A colour rendering index of 90 is clearly above the usual 80: the colours of timber, fabric and skin look as they do in daylight. The maker also states UGR < 15 – the discomfort-glare figure, a value acceptable even in offices. The deeply set reflector is what earns it: from the side you do not see the diode. SDCM < 3 guarantees that several units side by side share the same colour with no visible drift. Electrical data and service life The 10 W module delivers 720 lm in warm white 3000 K.
