CRYSTAL LED is a Spanish plafond by Mantra, 36 cm across and just 7.5 cm deep. The outer ring is a mirror, and the centre is filled by a slightly domed sheet of clear glass with a bubbled texture. The built-in LED of 18 W gives 1,800 lumens in neutral 4000 K white. A mirror rim, not chrome The most commonly mistaken feature of this lamp: the rim is not polished metal but a real mirror (the manufacturer lists the material as "espejo / cristal" — mirror and glass). The difference shows once it is lit: the mirror reflects the ceiling and the light escaping from under the glass, so the plafond appears to lift away and visually disappear instead of drawing a dark disc on the ceiling. Only the four clips holding the glass sheet are chrome. The glass texture turns flux into sparkle The centre sheet is not smooth — a regular grid of droplet-like bumps covers it. Each refracts the light at a slightly different angle, so instead of one even glowing plane you get a broken, glittering surface. It is the same trick used to fake crystal, executed in ordinary glass — hence the series name. Worth keeping in mind when planning bedroom lighting: the texture looks good, but looking straight at the lit fitting you see many bright points. 1,800 lumens at 4000 K — working light Eighteen watts give 1,800 lm — enough to light a 10–14 m² room on its own. The 4000 K colour is neutral white: colours and detail read well, and it is neither yellowish nor clinically cold. A colour rendering index of CRI 80 is the standard for functional lighting. The lamp is not dimmable and will not respond to a dimmer in the circuit. A flat body and its mounting At 7.5 cm deep the plafond barely stands off the ceiling, which makes it a sensible choice for low rooms and corridors where hanging fittings get in the way. It weighs 2.9 kg — a lot for a flush fitting, because mirror and glass are heavy, so the fixing must reach solid substrate rather than plasterboard alone. Protection class II means double insulation, so no earth conductor is required. The IP20 rating limits installation to dry interiors. Lifetime, family and origin The manufacturer declares 20,000 hours of LED operation and 30,000 switching cycles, and describes the module as replaceable — which matters, because on many plafonds an integrated LED means discarding the whole lamp. CRYSTAL LED comes in three sizes: 5090 (12 W, 28 cm), 5091 (18 W, 36 cm) and 5092 (24 W, 45 cm), so the size can be matched to the room or several combined. The lamp is made in Spain and carries a 5-year warranty.
