Mera Black is a wall light on an unusual scale for its category: 67 cm tall and 42 cm wide, with two shades spread across a black metal frame. This is not a small bedside fitting but an object that claims a piece of wall and forms a composition on its own. Smoked glass The shades are smoked glass set in black metal rings. Tinted glass does two things at once: switched off it reads as a dark, mirror-like volume — a decorative object; switched on it passes a subdued light, distinctly warmer in character than clear glass, and takes the hard glare off the filament. The effect therefore depends strongly on the lamp you choose: a filament bulb glows softly through the smoke, an opal globe gives even light. It works above a sofa, on a stairwell wall, in a hallway with room enough to step back. Two points spread over 42 cm light a wider stretch of wall than a single sconce, so the fitting also serves as fill light rather than pure accent. IP20 restricts it to dry interiors.
