Inside-etched glass with an iridised finish This is the element the whole look of the lantern rests on. The panes are etched on the inside and carry a seeded (bubbled) structure in an amber tone under an iridescent coating. Switched off, the lantern shimmers in sunlight like old bottle glass; switched on, it gives no flat milky glow but an uneven, warm light in which the bubbles remain visible. Plain surface frosting cannot produce that. Metal vines across the glass Metal bands shaped like vines run over the panes — not a frame dividing the glass into panels, but organic, irregular lines. It is the signature motif of the American Southwest Mission style that Morris refers to directly. Together with the Distressed Copper finish (deliberately aged copper with an uneven tone), the lantern looks as though it has been on the wall for a decade. Servicing The manufacturer keeps a spares catalogue: the replacement glass is part number GS1122. That is a practical detail on an exterior fitting where the glass is the most exposed element — one crack does not mean replacing the whole lantern.
