This is a small resin photo frame, in white, measuring 9 × 6.5 cm externally and 1 cm thick. It holds a print in 5 × 7 cm format – a desk or shelf size, not a wall one. Resin, not wood and not plastic The frame is cast in resin. In this application the material has two concrete advantages. First, casting produces a smooth, continuous surface with no joints – there are no mitred corners glued together as on a wooden frame, and no visible mould seam as on cheap injection moulding. Second, resin is hard and dimensionally stable: it does not move with changes in humidity, so the print will not ripple after a month on a windowsill. There is one price for that: resin must not be cleaned aggressively. Dust comes off with a dry, soft cloth; for marks a slightly damp one is enough. Solvents and abrasive creams dull the surface irreversibly. Every piece is hand finished The maker notes that the frames are hand finished, which produces small differences in the tone of the white and in the degree of polish. On one piece that is invisible; on three set side by side on a chest of drawers the difference can show. Worth knowing if you are planning a set – it is a property of handcrafted production, not a batch fault. Where a 5 × 7 cm format makes sense This is a deliberately small size. A frame holding a photograph the size of a business card competes with nothing in the room – it works as a personal accent on a desk, a bedside table or in a row on a shelf. It also sits well as the smallest element in a layered arrangement, standing in front of larger frames. At 70 grams it needs no heavy base, but equally it is not an object that survives being knocked over.
