Plywood instead of metal The frame is cut from plywood and painted white — a light material, warm to the touch and quite unlike the lacquered steel most lamps at this price are made of. A wooden frame does not heat up from the source and does not buzz; at this weight the lamp moves around the flat effortlessly. A fabric shade means diffused light, not a spot Lampshade fabric lets some light through the sides and scatters it instead of throwing a sharp pool. For reading fine print or desk work, add a directional fitting; LEA supplies the background, not the working beam.
